LIS News - April 2000

By: Ray Dutczak

April has been a very busy month in the LIS circle with cast convention appearances and Lost in Space Forever being released on DVD. LIS Forever on DVD has finally made it to store shelves, but in limited quantities. This special I consider the bible to the 35 years of LIS. Kevin Burns and Bill Mumy did a spectacular job with this TV special, bringing it to DVD.

The DVD has bonus footage from the Fox Archives that Kevin Burns managed to dig up. Special effect footage of CBS network sales presentation, Guy Williams original screen tests, and a behind the scenes featurette of the making of this special.

LIS Forever, from the cast members that I have talked to, think it's spectacular. I will be devoting a section of my web site to LIS Forever with a nice write-up for it.

Jonathan Harris
The great one, Jonathan Harris is doing fantastic. I asked him what he thought about the LIS Forever t.v. special on dvd. He thought it was very well done, and he said that it should be a hit with all the bonus footage that Kevin Burns added to it. He told me that it brought back a lot of memories going back into character after 35 years.

I received a call from a radio station here in NY 102.7, they wanted Jonathan to do a call in the Thursday before the Chiller Theater Conference here in NJ I asked him, and he agreed.

Jonathan's spot was amongst the most listened to for that week. It seems that everyone loves the "good doctor".

Mark Goddard
On April 19, Mark Goddard and myself went down to NYC to view a screening of a movie he shot this summer entitled "Overnight Sensation". The movie was very well received, as Miramax attended.

All involved are hoping that Miramax will be picking it up for distribution. But, only time will tell.

On April 15, at the Chiller Theater Expo, I presented Mark with a fan appreciation plague from LIS Memories, in appreciation of 35 years of LIS.

Mark was very touched and grateful. The plaque was a long time in coming, for what this man has done for me and for all of fandom.

Please checkout my convention section to find out where Mark will be appearing next.

Bill Mumy and Angela Cartwright
Bill and Angela made a Chiller Theater appearance on April 15 as well, and they were very well received. I had the privilege of sitting with Bill, and for 3 days he had long lines and he did not disappoint any fan that was waiting.

Bill and Angela signed and signed, smiled for photos, and they were as warm as can be. I would like to thank Bill and Angela for attending the April 15, Chiller Theater Expo. As for me personally, this was my favorite Chiller I have ever had the opportunity for attending.

I also arranged for Bill to do a radio call-in for 102.7 here at NY. He took questions, and answered them wit a bit of wit to all the listeners' delight.

Bill and Angela will start to film a sci fi movie "Overload" in June. Stay tuned for details as to its completion.

June Lockhart
I had the privilege to sitting with and helping June at a Creation Convention in Long Island NY June had lines after lines all day long. June told her stories of her LIS times on the set, and she answered many of the questions asked. She is great fun to be around, and she is a real sport about things. Checkout June's take on "The Great Vegetable Rebellion" in my episodes section, and you will see exactly what I mean.

Marta Kristen
Marta is doing a few commercials, a little bit of oil painting, and raising her granddaughter. She will be doing an interview for LIS Memories very soon, so be on the lookout for it. Also, checkout my conventions section as to where you can come out to meet her.

Bob May
Bob is doing fine with his wife Judy, and recently his son Marty and wife gave birth to a baby girl. The baby is doing fine, and that makes Bob and Judy grandparents again. Congratulations goes out from LIS Memories to Bob, Judy, Marty, and wife.

Bob just was attending the Fright Vision Convention in Ohio, on the weekend of March 31. This show is put on by my good friend Carl Thompson, who has the next Fright Vision Convention, slated for April 6-8, 2001. You can checkout his web site for details on the next event. Carl and myself are working on a little something special that all LIS fans will enjoy, stay tuned.

Bob was very well received, and he answered all questions put before him. He is always a lot of fun to be around, and he worked very hard on being the Robot on LIS. Bob never really got the credit he deserved, but the fan response at the conventions he attends, are very overwhelming. I personally want to thank Bob for the beautiful job he did, going back into character for the LIS Forever TV special.

That's all for this month. As always, support your cast, please be safe and happy, and thanks to all for the support I received.
