LIS News- January, February 2001
By: Ray Dutczak
On the weekend of December 10th and 11th, June Lockhart attended a Creation
Convention in Long Island, NY. The convention was pretty well attended, and I
managed to pay June a visit on Sunday, December 11th.
June signed many autographs and took tons of photos for fans that were in
attendance. June was lovely with all of her fans that stopped by and visited..
On Sunday, June had a nice Q&A and fans had the opportunity to ask many
questions, and to find out exactly what she has been up to lately.
At the Q&A, she told her stories about being Lost In Space for 3 seasons. If
June is doing a convention in your area, make sure you stop by and visit her -- she is a pleasure to visit.
Mark Goddard returned to New Jersey to attend a Slanted Fedora Convention
that was held the weekend of January 4-6 at the Meadowlands Sheraton. This
3-day event was filled with much to do, which included a Q&A session, and
there were many other celebrities to visit.
I sat with Mark during this 3-day event, and he was very receptive to the
fans. Mark signed autographs, smiled for pictures, and answered many
questions relating to the classic series and the Lost In Space Movie, in
which Mark played a General.
A dealer, who was selling video tapes across from we were sitting, played a
copy of the LIS Forever DVD. Mark remarked how seeing this special brought
back a lot of memories of his days working on Lost in Space.
This past February, I took my family out to Los Angeles to visit the sites
such as Disneyland, and the new California Disney Adventure. On our trip we
managed to visit with LIS members: Jonathan Harris, Marta Kristen, and Bob
May. We had a wonderful time.
We met Jonathan for lunch at a restaurant in the Valley. Jonathan looked great,
and my daughter Taylor simply adored the time she spent with him. We
caught up on some small talk, and also talked about the conventions coming up
in April. This included Fright Vision in Cleveland, and Chiller in New
Jersey. Jonathan will be appearing at both conventions.
As always, our visit with Jonathan was lovely, and we enjoyed him telling
stories so masterfully.
Later that day, we were dinner guests at Marta Kristen's house. We
enjoyed seeing Marta and her family. Marta is a great cook, and we all
enjoyed her meal. Her husband Kevin, is a real joy to spend time with, and
her grand daughter Lena is a doll. Lena and my daughter Taylor had a
wonderful time visiting each other.
Marta is a wonderful person and a great friend, and I can't thank her enough
for having us over. Thank you Marta.
On Thursday that week, we met Bob and Judy May, Bob's daughter Debra and
grandson Devon for dinner over at Universal Studios City Walk. After talking
on the phone with Bob, he mentioned that he knew of a great Italian
restaurant that had just opened up. We were seated in the upper level, and we
truly enjoyed both the dinner and the company. This was the first time I met
Debra and Devon, and I must say that they were wonderful.
Well, the vacation went fast and it was soon time to return home. We had a
wonderful time, and as always we look forward to returning soon.
