December 2003 Update
By: Ray Dutczak

Hello to everyone!

Winter is here, and Christmas is right around the corner. Just this past weekend we had a blizzard here in New York. Twenty inches of snow fell around the tri-state area. A little early for that type of storm! But, as they say, let it snow!

The Official Irwin Allen fan club is up and running and fan club packets are now available. The response has been very good so far with our membership drive. I must thank Kevin Burns and Sheila Allen for all the support they have given me with this endeavor. Without them none of this would be possible. Kevin Burns has donated many photos from all of Irwin's TV shows to the fan club. I plan on making some of those available to fan club members. Many of the images Kevin has donated have never been seen! Once again Kevin, thank you, your the best! Dave has set up a website just for the fan club, the website URL is www.iafanclub.com The design is outstanding! Many thanks to Dave for all his efforts in creating such a nice home for the fan club. I also have to thank Mark Swandt for his help in creating all the fan club certificates, buttons, membership badges, and cards. Mark has done a terrific job with these items. Fan club members will be very satisfied with their packets.

I was out in LA this past November and managed to get a sneak peak at the upcoming LIS DVD set via Kevin Burns. The picture quality of the episodes is FANTASTIC and everyone will definitely be satisfied. Fox did a great job with the prints and also the packaging for the DVD set. Each disc will have a cast member photo on the sleeve inside the box, which is very nice! You can pre-order these DVD's by going to www.amazon.com. Remember, the release date is January 13 which is right around the corner!

While in LA, Kevin took Bill Mumy, Ron Hamill, Jon Jashni, Scott Hartford, and myself out to dinner to honor the memory of Jonathan Harris. We all met on the 6th of November, which would have been Jonathan's 90th birthday. At dinner Kevin presented each of us with one of Jonathan's ascots that he wore at various times of his life. We all wore the ascots at dinner and reminisced about the GREAT one. Bill Mumy had brought along some photos and shared them with all of us. A very touching night to say the least! We hope to meet every year on November 6 to honor Jonathan. Boy do I miss him!

Also while out in LA, Kevin Burns took me over to Fox studios and gave me a little tour. I got to see the Voyage, LIS and LOTG soundstages and even the building where Irwin had his old office. Kevin also showed me were " Hatfield Four Corners" once was and where the building stood that Will Robinson landed on in the episode " Return From Outer Space". Definitely a thrill for me! Can't thank Kevin enough for all his generosity shown toward me when I was out in LA.

Ray & MalachiThe Chiller convention has come and gone. Another stellar show with record attendance. From the LIS, alumni Mark Goddard and Bob May attended. Malachi Throne made his first Chiller appearance at this show. What fun seeing Malachi again! I will have a full report in the upcoming Chiller convention report very soon!

Mark Goddard will be attending the Chiller/Fangoria convention coming up January 9-11 at the Sheraton in Secaucus N.J. You can get more info at www.chillertheatre.com I hope to see some of you guys there!

Columbia House continues to release LOTG on DVD. So far, seven volumes have been released. The prints are beautiful, uncut and definitely worth investing in a membership. Time Tunnel on VHS is also being released by Columbia House. Prints are good and so far I have received four volumes. Picture and sound quality is very good! Don't know why Columbia House opted for the VHS format instead of DVD.

The Rittenhouse Irwin Allen card set release has been pushed back to February. From what I have seen it looks to be a wonderful set based on all of Irwin's TV shows. There is an eight card preview set you can order from Rittenhouse right now which is spectacular. You can do this by going to their site at wwww.scifihobby.com -  you won't regret it!

Looks like the WB network has ordered a pilot to be made for a new LIS series. Should be interesting to see how this project pans out. Kevin Burns gave me a copy of the proposed NBC TV LIS movie which was called " The Journey Home". This was the movie that was to have the Classic LIS cast be found by a new group of space explorers. I have read some of the script and what a winner it is. After the passing of Jonathan Harris NBC opted to pass on the project, unfortunately.

So, that's about it for now. I hope everyone has a healthy and happy holiday season. As always, keep checking both websites for the updates. I appreciate all the support you guys have given me through the years by visiting the websites and supporting all the IA cast members at various venues around the country!

See ya next year!
